Thomas
~Thomas the Blue Engine - Number 1~

"Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends live and work on the island of Sodor. Thomas, an 0-6-0 tank engine, first came to Sodor on loan from a line in the South of England. The Fat Controller took a special interest in Thomas, and once he had proved himself to be a really useful engine he gave him a branch line of his own. Thomas has worked there happily ever since. His journey runs from Tidmouth to Ffarquhar, where he lives. He has his own branch line where he pulls his coaches Annie and Clarabel." Annie carries the passengers while Clarabel carries both passengers and their luggage.

Thomas is proud to be the number one engine in the Fat Controller's (Sir Topham Hatt is the head of the Railway) team.

Thomas is a really useful engine. Thomas the Train is a cheeky, fussy little engine, often getting into scrapes, usually by being over-eager to do things best left to bigger and more sensible engines. But clouds never last long in Thomas' life and he's soon bustling about again, playing his part in the yard on his very own branch line, of which he is extremely proud.

Edward
~~Edward the Blue Engine - Number 2~

"Edward is Thomas' friend; they work together on the island of Sodor.Edward is Engine number 2, and, like Thomas, his colour is Blue. He is an older engine and he's very kind to everyone. He always helps the little engines who run into difficulties. He's kind to big engines too. He is also kind to coaches. The Fat Controller always turns to Edward when the other engines are misbehaving. He is sure to calm them down and get everything back to normal." "Edward, a 4-4-0 engine, has been on the island almost as long as Thomas. First he worked at Wellworth and then at Vicarstown. The Fat Controller brought him back to Wellworth and put him in charge of a branch line from there to Brendam. Edward works this line with the help of the other engines."

Henry
~~Henry the Green Engine - Number 3~

Henry is the Green engine, he is long and very fast. He is a 4-6-0 engine. He is very handsome and proud of his shiny green paint. Henry gets excited very easily, so sometimes he gets ill. If his driver is kind and patient, then he will be able to get the best from him. Henry is a long, fast engine with a streamlined look which tends to make him somewhat high-strung and prone to illness.
"The Fat Controller was angry with Henry when he first arrived. It wasn't poor Henry's fault - he couldn't make enough steam because his firebox was too small. Then Henry had an accident whil pulling The Flying Kipper, and the Fat Controller sent him to Crewe to be rebuilt. He came back with a bigger firebox and a new shape and now enjoys his work. He is based at Tidmouth with Gordon."

Gordon
~~Gordon the Big Express Engine Number 4~

Gordon, a 4-6-2 engine, was built at Doncaster on the other railway as a test engine for a class of which the Flying Scotsman is the only one left.Gordon is the senior engine in the Fat Controller's team, and there's no mistaking it! He's the fastest and most powerful engine on Sodor, and he's very proud of that.His job is to pull the passenger express train, with all those heavy carriages full of people. He's also very proud of this job, and this can lead to him being a bit bossy.Gordon has a good heart, and he's very kind. He's always willing to forgive the other engines if they play tricks on him, but he likes to remind them that he can play a trick or two himself. But when something serious is happening, he can use his strength to help the other engines out of trouble.

James
~~James the Red Engine - Number 5~

"James is a 2-6-0 mixed traffic engine. He can pull trucks or coaches. He came to the island of Sodor as an 0-6-0, but the Fat Controller had another pair of wheels added in front and replaced his wooden brake blocks which caught fire on Gordon's Hill when James First arrived. James lives at Tidmouth.
James is a medium-sized engine. His six driving wheels are not as big as Gordon's and not as small as Thomas'. He has a fine scarlet coat and brass dome and likes to think of himself as a really splendid engine. This can occasionally lead to high-falutin' ideas about the sort of work suitable for such a noble creature: invariably they land James in trouble."

Percy
~~Percy the Little Green Engine - Number 6~

"No one, not even Sir Topham Hatt, knows where Percy really came from. He's an 0-4-0 saddle-tank engine who has spent much of his time on Sodor keeping Henry and Gordon in their places. Percy has worked hard and Sir Topham Hatt rewarded him by asking him to help with the building of the new harbor at Knapford. Now Percy helps Thomas with the goods traffic on the branch line and in the yard at Ffarquhar." "Percy is the junior member of the principal team of engines. He is a happy little chap who's normally quite happy puffing around the yard with no particular desire for adventure in the great world outside.""

Duck
~~Duck the Little Green Pannier Tank Engine~

"Duck is an 0-6-0 pannier tank Western engine. Duck is his nickname - his proper name is Montague, but he prefers Duck. He received his nickname because they say he "waddles" down the tracks. Sir Topham Hatt put him in charge of the branch line to Arlsburgh, which he runs with Oliver, another Western engine." Duck is a cheerful, busy tank engine. He'll stand no nonsense whatever from the larger engines who try to order him about.

Toby
~~Toby the Tram Engine ~

"Toby, is a 0-6-0 tank engine, was built for work in harbors and on roadside tramways, which accounts for his unusual shape, his side plates and cowcatchers. Toby is an old-fashioned Tram engine who was brought to the Island to help out after his own line closed. He keeps the roadside tramway running properly and helps Percy with good trains too. He has a coach called Henrietta." He and his faithful coach Henrietta are always happy to work, having once nearly been scrapped.

Trevor
~~Trevor the Traction Engine ~

"Trevor is an old tractor who loves to show that he can still be Very Useful. His favorite pastime is giving rides to the children who come to the farm to visit him. Trevor was saved from the scrap heap by the efforts of James and Edward. Before retiring to the Church grounds, he helped Thomas down by the sea. One time, Trevor helped clean up Henry's Forest after a very large storm.

Harold
~~Harold the Helicopter ~

"Harold is a helicopter who lives at Dryaw Airfield near Thomas's branch line. Percy was the first of the Fat Controller's engines to meet him. Percy thought Harold was noisy and Harold kept on boasting about how up-to-date he was. Percy challenged him to a race and won, but Harold proved just how useful he was later by parachuting hot drinks to Percy's passengers when he was stuck in a flood. Now they are firm friends." Harold brings happiness to the quiet landscape of Sodor whenever he appears, even if the noise he makes is occasionally wearing. He is good-hearted and the engines are always pleased to see him.

Daisy
~~Daisy the Passenger Diesel ~

"Daisy is a classy, sassy passenger diesel. When she first came to Sodor, she believed that she should only carry passengers, and never pull trucks. She learned quickly the importance of teamwork and now helps out however she can. Daisy, was originally sent as a temporary helper for Thomas after a particularly nasty accident, she did not make friends right away. She insulted Annie and Clarabelle (Thomas' coaches) and refused to pull a container car because she thought it beneath her. Highly Sprung , you know. She gained acceptance after an accident where she helped the other engines and has remained in the yard since.

Bertie
~~Bertie the Bus~

"Bertie the bus came to the Island of Sodor soon after Thomas was given his branch line. Like Thomas, he lives at Ffarquhar. Once he rescued Thomas's passengers when he got stuck in a snowdrift. He also had a race with Thomas, though Thomas won. Now they keep each other well supplied with passengers and are the best of friends." Bertie the Bus has a friendly grin and is ready to help any engine prepared to admit that roads have their uses as well as rails. He is the best of friends with Thomas the Tank Engine ever since their Great Race.

Mavis
~~Mavis the Young Diesel~

"Mavis is a feisty young diesel engine who has six small wheels hidden by sideplates just like Toby's. She is high spirited and full of her own ideas, often doing things without thinking about their consequences. Her lack of experience often leads her into trouble, but she is smart and learns from her mistakes. She has a lot to learn about trucks, but, with Toby's help, she is learning to be a Really Useful Engine.Mavis belongs to the Ffarquhar Quarry Company. She was brought to switch the sidings and was unreliable at first, but after she had helped to save Toby from his tightrope, Sir Topham Hatt and the Quarry Manager decided to give her a chance and allowed her to go down the tramway to Ffarquhar yard. Now she has become quite useful, and she and Toby work the tramway very efficiently between them."

Lady
~~Lady the Magic Engine~

"Lady is a very special golden engine who holds the secret to The Magic Railroad. With her use of the magic gold dust, she was able to travel to the Island of Sodor and help Thomas the train and the Conductor defeat Diesel 10."
